Applies to: AutoCAD 2010
Challenge
When you open a drawing that has an x-reference attached, the linework from that attachment is faded, or grayed out.
Solution
AutoCAD has a variable setting that controls if x-references are faded after being attached, and a scale for how severe the fading is. You can turn off this feature by going to the Insert tab > Reference panel. Click on the down arrow next to the panel title to see the additional commands, and click on the Xref Fading toggle button (1). If you want to leave the fading on, but change its intensity, then use the scroll bar (2) to increase or decrease the percent fading.
