Autodesk Network License Manager 2011 – Installation and Setup Instructions

Applies to:  All Autodesk Products using the Autodesk Network License Manager, including AutoCAD, Inventor, Revit, and Civil 3D

Challenge

Installing and setting up the Autodesk Network License Manager.

** When creating your network image KETIV strongly recommends disabling your anti-virus protection to avoid any corruptions of the install.  KETIV also recommends installing under the local Administrator login to the workstation.

 

Autodesk 2011 Network License Manager Installation

1. Insert Autodesk 2011 Disk into DVD-ROM Drive. The Autodesk Installation Wizard will begin. If the Wizard does not appear, select Start on the taskbar, then Run. In the command line, enter "d:\setup" (where "d" indicates your DVD-ROM drive) and click ok.
 

 

2. Select Install Tools and Utilities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


3. Select the Products you wish to Install and select Next.
 
4. Accept license agreement and select Next.

5. Select Configure next to Network License Manager

6. Accept the default path or specify the Product Install Path and select Next.       

7. The configuration for the Network License Manager is now complete.  If you selected to install the Autodesk CAD Manager Utilities, Autodesk Asset Locator, or SAMreport-Lite continue on or select Configuration Complete and go to Configuration Complete section.

8. Select Install.
9. When installation is complete select Finish.

 

Setting Up The License Manager (lmtools.exe)

10. Go to Start > Program Files >Autodesk > Network License Manager > LMTOOLS.

11. Select the Config Services tab.

12. In the Service Name drop-down list, verify that the service you want to use to manage your Autodesk license is selected. If no service name exists, enter the service name you want to use to manage Autodesk licenses. Example : Flexlm Service 1 is the default name

13. Enter the path to the lmgrd.exe file. Note: In this example, the license manager was installed in C:\Program Files\Autodesk Network License Manager.

14. Enter the path to the license file. Note: In this example the license manager C:\Program Files\Autodesk Network License Manager\License.  To obtain the license file please call 1-800-551-1490 press 1 for English and 2 for Network.  They will need your serial numbers, server name, and server mac address.  Once you receive the file save it in Autodesk Network License Manager\License folder).

15. Enter the path where you want the debug log file to be located. Note: A debug log file must be created. To create this file open notepad and save as debug.log and save it in the same location as your Autodesk Network license file.

16. To run lmgrd.exe as a Windows service, select Use Services

17. To automatically start lmgrd.exe when the system starts, select Start Server at Power Up. 


 
18. Select the Start/Stop/Reread tab.

  • Verify that Flexlm Service 1 is in the box
  • Select Start Server Note: It should say server start successful at the bottom
  • Select ReRead License File. Note: It should show an hour glass and then re-read license file complete at the bottom.
  • You are now up and running with your Autodesk Network License Manager.  

 

CAD Manager Tools, Autodesk Asset Locator, and SAMreport-Lite

Read the Documentation Section on the startup window.  There is an option for Networks Administrator's Guide and a SAMreport-Lite Users Guide.
 

Notes:

  • Although there are other installation options that can be considered, this one addresses most system configurations and needs.  If you are a KETIV client, we will be happy to answer any other questions you may have at 714.680.6744
     
  • Consolidate servers where you can
  • Try not to have users access a license manager from a remote location.
  • Recommended operating systems for a server are 32-bit Windows XP or 2003 server
  • Let you users know to close out of the application while at lunch, when they leave for the day.  This will free up a license for another user.
  • The license file will become invalid whenever you change your server name, the network card on the server, or the total amount of licenses.  If any of these conditions change, you will need to contact Autodesk again and ask for a new license file at 1-800-551-1490.
