Components that make contact should stop assembly motion

Applies to:  Autodesk Inventor

Challenge:

The motion of my assembly should stop when components contact each other

Solution:

Activate Contact Solver.  Select components that should stop motion when they contact one another and add them to the Contact Set.

In an assembly file constrain the parts, making sure not to fully constrain the assembly.  You want there to be degrees of freedom that allow you to drag the assembly to simulate the function.  Next select the Inspect tab select the Activate Contact Solver button.  Then right click the parts or assemblies that you want to be included in the solver.  Select the “Contact Set” option.  Finally drag your assembly to see how parts function when they come into contact with each other.  This is a great way to simulate an assembly to make sure your product is going to function properly.
