Convert Solid to Sheet Metal

Applies to:  Autodesk Inventor

Challenge

How can I take a non-native sheet metal part and convert it into a native Autodesk Inventor Sheet Metal part that we can create a flat pattern part.

Solution

If the original part was done as a true sheet metal part, this video will show you how to take that part, open it in Inventor, convert it to Sheet Metal, and change the sheet metal thickness default to be able to create a flat pattern.

Note:
This assumes that no changes are necessary to the corners, bends, and radii.  If you are not able to create a flat pattern you might have to rip the corners or use the Seam tool to correct hose.  It may also be necessary to change the sheet metal defaults so that the correct radii are specified
