Export from Revit to Plant 3D

Applies To : AutoCAD Plant 3D 2011, Revit 2012

Challenge

What is the best way to bring Revit geometry into Plant 3D so that Revit model shows in the Orthographic drawing views.

Solution

In Revit 2012, go to the Application Menu, Export > CAD Formats > DWG Files.

In the View/Settings dialog, select the DWG Properties tab.

For the Solids, (3D Views Only) option, select Export as ACIS Solids.

Save the file to the Plant 3D Models folder in your project.  You can link to the project for quick access if you like.  Plant 3D 2011, does not require these “background drawings” to be linked to you project.  Some benefits of having it linked are easy access for reference and also when selecting Models to Include in your Ortho Drawings Views.

Attach the exported Revit .dwg as an xref at 0,0 as the insertion point.

Create your Orthographic views and if necessary select the file in Models to Include.
