Set Up a Read-Write Library

Applies to:  Autodesk Inventor

Challenge:

You want to be able to modify the Content Center by changing descriptions, part numbers and adding customer parts, but Inventor says you have to have a read-write library.  You will notice that when you go into the content center editor the files are grayed out.

Solution:

First, you’ll need to tell Inventor which type of Content Center, Vault Based or Desktop Content.  Here is a tip that will help you do this.  http://ketiv.com/support/tech-tips/change-content-center-from-local-to-server-based

Next you’ll need to ensure you have a read/write library available. By default all CC libraries are read only and can’t be modified. After you create a read/write library you’ll be able to customize it.

If you are keeping your Content Center in the Vault, check to see if you have a read-write library available to use.  Go to the server hosting your vault and launch the ADMS (Autodesk Data Management Server).  Right click on the Libraries node and select Create Library. While you’re in ADMS ensure that your user account has Content Center Editor permissions.

If you are working with Desktop Content, it should already have a read-write My Library present.

After the library is created return to Inventor and select the projects editor and choose the Configure Content Center Libraries button. Add the new library to the project by checking the appropriate box.

To rename the library, right click the read-write library and select Library Properties.
