Sharing Tool Palettes in AutoCAD P&ID

Applies to:  AutoCAD P&ID 2010

Challenge

I work in a network environment and would like to share my tool palettes with other users.

Solution

It is as simple as Locate, Copy, and Redirect.

Note:  AutoCAD P&ID Symbols must be defined in the active project to work properly.

Locate

  • Locate your Tool Palettes and Authoring Palettes in Windows Explorer

Windows XP

C:\documents and settings\<username>\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD P&ID 2010\R18.0\Enu\Support\ToolPalettes
C:\documents and settings\<username>\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD P&ID 2010\R18.0\Enu\Support\Authoring Palettes

Windows Vista

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD P&ID 2010\R18.0\Enu\Support\ToolPalettes
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD P&ID 2010\R18.0\Enu\Support\Authoring Palettes

Note:  If Application Data is not shown, Go to Tools>Folder Options>View Tab…Select Show Hidden Files and Folders.

Copy

  • Copy both folders to a central location on your network.  Users should have read/write access to this folder.

Redirect

  • At each station, open AutoCAD P&ID.
  • Right click the command line and select Options.
  • Go to the Files Tab
  • Expand the Tool Palettes File Locations, redirect to new location.
  • Expand the Authoring Palettes Files Locations, redirect to new location.
  • Select OK
  • Close AutoCAD P&ID and reopen to have settings take effect.
