My name is Zoe Walschots and in May 2022, I started as a Marketing Intern at KETIV. At the end of my summer, I wrote an article describing my experience in this position so far. Now that I have finished my year with KETIV, I wanted to revisit my experiences and elaborate on all the tasks I have accomplished and the skills I have learned.
About Me
I am an incoming senior at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. I am double majoring in both Marketing and Information Systems & Business Analytics (ISBA). I am also a member of a few student organizations, three of which I serve as the Vice President of PR and Marketing for. Through my academic and extracurricular experiences, I have discovered my passion for communicating findings and insights, especially those coming from data. I ultimately want to land a role that allows me to extract key insights from data and use those for marketing and communication efforts.
Why KETIV
I started with KETIV in May 2022. I have always seen myself working for a variety of industries as I move through my career, including the technology and engineering industries. This industry is filled with such driven people, that inspire me to constantly bring my best work to the table. This internship has been a great professional development experience as I work towards completing my undergraduate degree. My experience this past year has given me great insight into marketing campaigns, website optimization, content creation, and more. Additionally, with KETIV having a small marketing team, it has allowed me to truly be immersed in every aspect of marketing, also helping me realize which paths I am most interested in pursuing as I further my career.
Week in the Life
During my internship, I have been assigned a series of weekly tasks that I am responsible for completing. One of these is overseeing the weekly KETIV Virtual Academy webinar which includes sending reminder and follow-up emails, video editing, and updating the website. Other weekly tasks include tracking social media growth and creating social content. Our Marketing team also meets weekly to discuss projects we are working on and any areas where we might need support.
Apart from my weekly tasks I have worked on various short and long-term projects during my time with KETIV. Some of my short-term projects include creating social media posts and graphics for marketing campaigns, working on blog content, and updating behind-the-scenes processes. One of the long-term projects I have gotten the chance to work on has been using WordPress to recreate KETIV’s website. I have loved doing this specifically because I feel like I am able to impact the operations of the company as a whole. I have also been able to write my own email campaign both internally for employees and externally to customers. Lastly, I have been able to join any meetings or tasks of my other coworkers to learn more about their roles and the other operations that happen within the team.
My Takeaway
This is my first marketing internship and so far, it has allowed me to obtain amazing experience for my aspired future career. I have been given opportunities to learn different platforms such as HubSpot, Asana, and WordPress. Getting to use and become comfortable with these softwares has been helpful, and this knowledge will be able to help me with any job, and even school projects.
I have enjoyed the opportunity to be immersed in the marketing operations of the whole company. Being allowed to produce content of my own such as new web pages from scratch and social content for campaigns is something I don’t believe I could have done at another company. I have also felt very supported by not only my team but the entire company. I am encouraged to try anything and ask questions whenever I have them.
What’s Next
Although I am sad that my time with KETIV is coming to a close this summer, I am looking forward to embarking on a new chapter that allows me to incorporate all the skills that I picked up during this internship. I will be joining NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory as a Systems Engineering Intern this summer. In this position, I will work on using some of my technical skills to make their data that is accessible to the public, easy to understand and use. This position deals with effectively communicating with external stakeholders, which my mentors were very excited to see how I would approach this with my internship and marketing background. The skills and overall experience I have received at KETIV have opened many doors for me, and I am excited to see where it takes me!
