Updating Your Network License Manager for 2017

With Autodesk’s 2017 product line rolling out, everyone is excited to start using their new software. However, for those of you on Network Licenses, there are a few things that have to be taken care of before you can use your 2017 products.

If you currently have Network Licenses in place you must:

  1. Update your Network License Manager (LM Tools) to version 11.13.1.2 or newer
  2. Give your Network License Service a new name

We’ll show you everything you need to download, install, and configure the newest version of LM Tools to get you working on 2017.

Let’s Get Started

The first step is to uninstall your current Network License Manager if you have an older version installed. Next, download and install the newest version. 

If you don’t update your LM Tools and attempt to run a 2017 version of the software it will fail to pull the license file as previous versions of Autodesk Network License Manager can’t read the new license files. New versions of LM Tools will continue to support older software and license files.

We recommend that network administrators always update licensing servers with the most recent version of Network License Manager when it is released to avoid any licensing issues and ensure compatibility with current versions of other Autodesk software products.

Configuring the Network License Manager

After downloading and installing your new Network License Manager, you’ll need to configure it. For information on how to configure your Network License Manager see Autodesk’s instructions in the link below below.

Before you’re done, if you had a previous installation, you’ll need to give your Network License Service a new name. You can do this while you are configuring your Network License Manager by going to the ‘Config Service‘ tab in the LM Tools dialog window. From here you can enter a new name for your Service.

Config Services tab > Service Name dropdown > create new Service Name

Once you have given your Service a new name you’ll want to be sure and check that all of the Paths below are correct as well. All that’s left is to click ‘Save Service’.

If you follow these steps and update your Network License Manager to the newest version you’ll be one step closer to getting up and running. All that’s left is to generate your new license file and download your software. Stay tuned for our guides that will show you how!
